Hope For Future
Background
Millions of children worldwide face the devastating combination of poverty, mental health struggles, and unstable family environments. Many of these children come from underprivileged families, live in extreme financial hardship, and grow up in orphanages or single-parent households. With limited access to basic resources, these children are at high risk of depression, anxiety, and behavioral issues, which, if left unaddressed, can lead to lifelong challenges, including homelessness, substance abuse, and even crime. Without immediate intervention, their futures are bleak, and the societal cost of addressing these problems later will far outweigh the cost of prevention.
The Hope for Future project provides a lifeline for these vulnerable children by offering a comprehensive support system in a well-equipped shelter designed to meet their needs. This facility will not only address their mental health through counseling and therapy but also alleviate their poverty by providing essentials like food, clothing, and education. The shelter will offer a safe and nurturing environment where children can thrive, rebuild their
confidence, and develop the skills they need to break free from the cycle of poverty.
By ensuring both short-term relief and long-term transformation, the project aims to significantly improve the lives of these children. In the short term, they will experience stability, care, and access to resources that many have never known. In the long term, they will have the tools to build a brighter future, contributing positively to society rather than becoming victims of its neglect. By empowering these children, we can ensure they have the opportunity to live with dignity and hope, transforming them from a generation at risk into a generation of promise.

Highlights
Starting from Fall 2024, the Afra Charity Foundation has launched an innovative relief of poverty program named “Hope For Future" in the impoverished suburbs of Tehran. The primary objective of the Hope for Future project is to provide underprivileged children who are facing mental health challenges and living in poverty with comprehensive supports, including shelter, basic necessities, medical expenses, mental health care, and education, to break the cycle of poverty and secure a brighter future for them and society.
Through our certified representative in Iran, we selected one of the most well-equipped centers for the treatment and rehabilitation of children and adolescents at risk. This state-of-the-art center provides round-the-clock care services for children, including sleeping accommodations, food, clothing, hygiene, medical treatment, counseling services, educational support, mental health services, and rehabilitation programs.
We reviewed multiple cases of underprivileged children with mental health challenges and selected those who met the criteria and demonstrated strong potential for long-term improvement and recovery. The project began with the first child, and following the success of the pilot phase, we are now seeking additional support to expand the program and include more children from the waiting list.

Child 1: A.H.
Background & Initial Report (2024)
A.H. is without a guardian and lives in an orphanage. Eight years ago, when he was a young child, his mother abandoned him at the Southern Bus Terminal of Tehran, and social emergency services placed him in the orphanage. He has completed the 6th grade of elementary school and is working hard to enter the 7th grade. Due to his aggressive behaviors, frequent hospitalizations in psychiatric hospitals, and lack of effective treatment, he faces many challenges in interacting with others and in his education.
However, he has shown a great deal of potential for learning. He is highly intelligent and has a strong interest in art and crafts. Fortunately, the initial treatments have been effective, giving us hope for a full recovery. With continuous and comprehensive support at the care center, he has been able to advance in his studies and has made significant progress in his education. He will need round-the-clock care for the coming months to ensure his long-term recovery. After that, he will be able to continue his life as a normal child, either in a family that will accept him or in the orphanage. However, he will still need ongoing care, including counseling, therapy, and other support.
Progress & Final Report (2025)
Due to his age and the absence of available relatives, A.H. initially had no prospects for adoption. A significant opportunity emerged when a family who had lost their own child became involved with the center through educational and sports support activities. Over time, a strong emotional bond developed between A.H. and the family, leading them to formally request his adoption. Following professional evaluations and required procedures, a temporary hosting period was approved to ensure the child’s well-being and long-term compatibility.
During this period, A.H. was introduced to the family gradually, initially as a guest, allowing both the child and the family to confirm emotional compatibility, stability, and readiness for long-term commitment. The hosting phase was closely monitored by professionals, with ongoing psychological and social evaluations to support a safe and informed transition. Despite the family’s relocation to Germany, coordination with the relevant authorities ensured continuity of care and oversight, including maintaining A.H.’s education until the completion of the academic year.
The temporary hosting arrangement progressed successfully, and A.H. has since officially become a legal member of his adoptive family. He relocated to Germany to continue his life with them. The transition was carefully managed, with ongoing oversight to support his emotional and psychological well-being.
Currently, A.H. receives monthly medical follow-ups and maintains weekly contact with his psychologist. He has fully adapted to his new country, city, social environment, and school system, and he has demonstrated excellent progress in learning the German language. His adjustment and development indicate a highly promising future.
