Bundles of Compassion
Phases 1 & 2
Background
In response to the humanitarian consequences of the recent conflict in Iran, the Bundles of Compassion Campaign was launched by Afra Charity Foundation to provide timely, transparent, and targeted assistance to individuals and families whose lives were severely disrupted. The conflict resulted in widespread displacement, loss of income, physical injuries, and damage to essential household and medical resources, leaving many vulnerable families unable to meet their most basic needs. Guided by its mission to relieve poverty and preserve human dignity, Afra Charity Foundation developed this campaign as a three-phased humanitarian response focused on addressing both immediate and longer-term needs of the affected families.
Phase 1 focused on emergency relief by providing food, hygiene products, and other essential household necessities to conflict-affected families. Priority was given to households with children under the age of 16, individuals with chronic illnesses, and families whose primary income earner had been killed, injured, or had lost employment because of the conflict. This initial intervention aimed to alleviate immediate hardship and ensure that vulnerable families could maintain access to necessities during a period of acute crisis.
Phase 2 addressed the needs of individuals who suffered lasting physical consequences from the conflict. Many injured individuals, post-surgical patients, persons with disabilities, and elderly people requiring intensive care faced significant barriers in obtaining essential medical and mobility equipment. Through this phase, the campaign supplied wheelchairs, walkers, pressure-relief mattresses, hygiene supplies, and other medical necessities, enabling beneficiaries to regain mobility, improve daily living conditions, and receive care with greater dignity. The successful completion of this phase marked an important transition from emergency assistance toward restoring quality of life for those most severely affected.
Phase 3 will focus on supporting the longer-term recovery and resilience of conflict-affected families. While immediate humanitarian needs have been addressed through the first two phases, many vulnerable individuals and families continue to require assistance as they rebuild their lives. The next phase will seek to provide targeted support to achieve sustainable relief of poverty based on evolving needs identified through ongoing assessments, ensuring that assistance remains effective, accountable, and responsive.

Highlights
Implementing a humanitarian project during an ongoing conflict presented significant operational challenges. Supply chains were disrupted, access to affected communities was limited, and conditions on the ground changed rapidly. Despite these obstacles, Afra Charity Foundation successfully planned, procured, and delivered aid through the local agent, ensuring that assistance reached beneficiaries safely and efficiently.
A critical component of the project was the careful identification and verification of beneficiaries. Limited resources made it essential to prioritize those facing the greatest hardship, including families with young children who had lost their primary source of income and individuals who had suffered conflict-related injuries or disabilities. Working closely with local volunteers and community networks helped ensure that aid was distributed fairly, transparently, and where it would have the greatest impact.

Beyond providing immediate relief, the campaign aimed to prevent vulnerable families from falling into a cycle of extreme poverty from which recovery could take years. Access to food, mobility aids, and basic hygiene supplies reduced the need for families to deplete their remaining resources, incur debt, or forgo essential care, helping preserve dignity and resilience during a period of extraordinary hardship.
In Phase 1, the effort was focused on providing food and other essential items for affected families with priority given to families with children under 16 or with ill members, where the head of household has been killed, injured, or has lost their job due to the conflict. In Phase 2, the Foundation supported underprivileged individuals who have been physically affected by the conflict, including the injured, post-surgery patients, immobile individuals, and elderly persons requiring intensive care. Together, the first two phases demonstrated that even under the challenging conditions of an active conflict, targeted humanitarian assistance can be delivered effectively, transparently, and with lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable communities.
